Latest update from Tina:

Quote:
The pathology report came back on the samples from surgery with the same results as the needle biopsy that was done on July 7th. So no new suprises & Brad has adenocarcinoma colon cancer.

So, at least they know what type it is for sure. They seem to be encouraged by that :)

As if I (we) didn't already have enough reasons to fold... Just found out that my first cousin (my mom's sister's son) has stage 4 colon cancer with spots on his liver and a tumor wrapped by his intestines the size of a softball :( He is 34. He has a four year old son to boot. Very sad. From what I have read, the prognosis will not be very good. It is news like this that make me want to fold even more!

I can't believe we missed this. That is absolutely horrible news. The prognosis doesn't sound at all promising. We will dedicate our current build in progress to him. I don't know how else to express our sorrow.

Thank you very much :) Very much appreciated!

I try and avoid the statistics on the whole thing because I know they aren't good. There is always hope though :)

Psalm 34: delight thy self in the lord and HE will give you the desires of your heart. Trust also in him and he will bring it to pass.

We're at a loss as to what name to give the new machine we have in the works dedicated to your cousin, since his name is the same as mine!
Tomorrow it will be fired up for the first time so naming time is here. :-?

Well, he started chemo. I guess we will see where that progresses. Here is the latest update from his wife, Tina:

Quote:
Brad's hemoglobin was up to 10.5 today! He was able to start his first chemo treatment today. He did really good in the doctor's office with it, & since he's been home he's just been having some heartburn. Still having problems eating. Nothing sounds good to him, I try naming off everything under the sun & only get an ok every once in a while! The doctor gave him another medicine to take that will hopefully help with some of the pain he has started having in his leg & hip and said it may even help with his eating. We're keeping our fingers crossed! He will go back Thursday to get the pump that is running now with additional chemo in it disconnected & another liter of fluids.

The doctor said today that he will want Brad to come in twice a week for IV fluids for the first few weeks atleast & will take lab work once a week. Then this chemo that was started today he will have again in two weeks.

That's good news. I'm glad they're taking the very cautious approach to that because getting the second chemo session a little too soon can have nasty consequences. Lots of blood workups before setting the date should be a law.

This kind of worries me. He didn't have weight to lose before all of this started. I don't know what tpn IV is either.

Brad went in to get his Chemo pump disconnected & a liter of fluids today. They are concerned with him not eating, so we are to go back tomorrow morning for another liter of fluids & blood work. More then likely they are going to decide to start the tpn IV at home to try to keep him from losing any more weight. They will tell us more after we go in for blood work in the morning.

Man, worries me too. We've got to keep his spirit up to push through this. I sincerely hope his body can hold up.

Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) is the same as intravenous feeding.

If Brad is unable to eat, weight loss is inevitable. Intravenous feeding will help prevent this and keep his strength up.

Thinking good thoughts.

Latest update:

Quote:
We saw the Dr. yesterday & he said he still wants Brad to be on the IV antibotics for another week, since he's still having such high fevers, but we can do those at home. The doctor said unless Brad feels like he needs fluids on Thursday, we can wait & come back to see him next Tuesday. The plan will be to start round 3 of Chemo on Tuesday. His hemoglobin was at 8.4, if it gets below 8 he'll have to have to get blood before Chemo. I told him that 8.4 is pretty darn good considering how much blood they took to do all the tests last week for infections. Doctor is planning on keeping him on the nutrition IV until Brad can eat more on his own. He's doing better with eating, I just have to remind him to try to eat a few bites of something every hour.

Thinking of you Aaron, your family and that Brad comes through the other side. My thoughts are with you all.
